Hi, I just started using the framework so sorry if this is a noob question but what does SP_CREATE_POOL(pool) and SP_RELEASE_POOL(pool) actually do and when should I use it?
I ran across it in a lot of sample code but can't find any mention of it in the Docs.

That's to do with memory management sparrow it's needed when starting sparrow.
Yes, those are just macros for the standard Objective-C autorelease pools.
NSAutoreleasePool *(pool) = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; // ... [pool release];
is the same as
SP_CREATE_POOL(pool); // ... SP_RELEASE_POOL(pool);
In most cases, you won't need to call it manually.
Why do you make sparrow start in an autorelease pool?
Just so that all temporary objects that are created during its initialization are removed at once. The initialization-process of a game (and Sparrow) is normally a phase in the lifetime of a game where a lot of objects are created. If it's done within an autorelease-cycle, the memory is quickly cleaned up after that's finished.
